The Healing Benefits of Kombucha

Call it Kombucha, fermented tea, mushroom tea, tea of immortality, booch, or just plain gross...but this beverage is a dose of health in a bottle. Although it's exact origins remain a mystery, it's been used medicinally for thousands of years. If your New Year’s goal was to create healthy habits I suggest you research a daily dose of kombucha. I consume one 12 oz glass per day, I make my own, and I create therapeutic dosing in my customized kombucha. But let's slow that roll, we can get to that later...first let's examine the healing benefits of kombucha.

A quick summary of the healing benefits of kombucha would be that it is a fermented tea, rich in antioxidants, and probiotics that combat bad microorganisms, creating a healthy gut and in turn a healthy immune system. But let's break it down into smaller digestible parts.😉

Kombucha is a Rich Source of Antioxidants

Our bodies are bombarded by oxidative stressors and free radicals daily, which cause inflammation and health issues. Antioxidants repair free radicals and detoxify the body. The antioxidant found in kombucha can balance the cycle of oxidative stress and free radical damage in our bodies. The healing benefits of kombucha using high dose antioxidants may reduce certain cancers.

Kombucha is a Rich Source of Probiotics

If you know kombucha then there's no surprise that it's loaded with probiotics. Store-bought brand labels are slathered with the word ’probiotic.’ Well, it's more than just the probiotics that support healthy digestion. Kombucha also utilizes amino acids and enzymes in conjunction with probiotics to promote a healthy digestive tract. The healing benefits of kombucha using powerful probiotics are thought to decrease bad bacteria and stabilise good bacteria within the digestive tract. Promoting a healthy gut. There is more and more research being done on the overall health of the body and brain through a healthy gut. Not only can a daily dose of probiotics improve gut health, but it can also improve digestion which can jumpstart a stagnant metabolism increasing weight loss, and it can keep you regular...who doesn't wanna lighten their load daily? 🤗

Kombucha is a Rich Source of Acetic Acid

Some think kombucha has a vinegar taste. That's because acetic acid is also found in vinegar. Typically vinegar has an acetic acid level between 4-7%, while kombucha levels are closer to 1%. Kombucha has a kick, there is no doubt about that. But the acetic acid in kombucha is a combatant to many harmful microorganisms, bad bacteria, and yeast. These antimicrobial effects also suppress the growth of bad bacteria and yeast. This badass antimicrobial makes kombucha a good preventative for any microorganism invasion your body may be susceptible to.

Benefits of Kombucha

  • Combat Heart Disease: Studies show Kombucha improves LDL and HDL

  • Type 2 Diabetes: Slows down the digestion of carbs which reduces blood sugar levels

  • Combats Some Cancers : Prevents the growth of cancerous cells

Kombucha Therapeutic Dosing

I never prescribe or claim to be a pro in health and nutrition, I simply share what I've tried through my research. If you see it on The Retro Hippie website then it's something I've researched, tried consistently, and have seen results from first hand...therefore I find it share-worthy, hopefully, you will too. Remember no two people will ever respond the same and each of us reacts individually depending on what our bodies need, so introduce new therapies slowly. You can pulse your doses up or down until you get to a point that you feel is best for you.

I've been therapeutically dosing with kombucha for over a year and simply love what it's done for me. I’m easily triggered by certain foods and I have found that one kombucha a day keeps the irritable bowel syndrome away. The healing benefits of kombucha are plentiful and I use my daily dose of 12oz. per day as a 'therapy' by making my own kombucha and adding supplementation as my body needs it. Basically, instead of store-bought kombucha, I make my own, all organic, and I can add whatever I feel my body needs at the time. For example, in this high stress and scary time with social distancing and the threat of the COVID-19 virus, this month I am adding 1000 mg of Reishi Mushroom Powder to each 12 oz glass of kombucha. This is a great way to power up your body with a high dose of antioxidants. Make sure to follow one or all of my social media platforms for updates when I post my kombucha recipe. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it’s a great tool to have on your journey to ‘take back your health.’
